Ko Charlotte toku ingoa!
Despite growing up in different parts of the world, I come from a long line of Kiwi farmers which instilled a deep curiosity and commitment to learning more about the ways we can farm with nature rather than against nature. In 2020, I completed my BA in Human Geography and Politics and a Masters degree in Sustainable Business in 2022 at the University of Otago and have recently returned from a year volunteering with VSA in a youth centre on the island of Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu. Although there is no such thing as technological silver bullets, I am fascinated about the impact future innovative technologies may have on incumbent agriculture industries. This curiosity informed my Master's dissertation around cellular agriculture promissory narratives and how they could disrupt 'clean green made in NZ' discourses. Currently, I work as a sustainability educator in schools with the Tread Lightly Charitable Trust and as a support worker.
One policy change Iād like to see: I would like to see a more holistic approach to agricultural policies that honours the interconnectedness of our curiously complex ecological systems and gives greater urgency to protecting our precious soil!
If I could choose one superpower: 100% teleportation! So that I could travel the world, experience different cultures and natural landscapes without having a massive carbon footprint.
