Leonore Hafermann

Kia ora koutou!

My name is Leonore. After studying Management of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences in Germany, I came to New Zealand to visit my sister. However, I fell in love with the beautiful country and its people, and I decided to stay. I believe that since agricultural land covers a significant portion of the Earth's surface, farmers have a great responsibility to work in harmony with nature. Aotearoa is home to numerous endemic species that hold immense value and require protection.

I am currently a Teaching Fellow for the Agricultural Innovation Programme at the University of Otago, for which I help develop, deliver, and assess teaching content of the programme. The programme’s aim is to help students become critical thinkers and leaders in the field of future-oriented agriculture.

One policy change I’d like to see: greater effort into increasing the native biodiversity of New Zealand

If I could choose one superpower:  I would like to bring extinct species back to life.
